The Change in Behavior in Natural Gas Storage Operators in the East Consuming Region

This week's Natural Gas storage number in review: We have adjusted our weighting of individual storage facilities sample in the East this week after noticing that the relationship between TCO/DTI and the EIA east storage injections have changed from 2012. Storage facilities other than DTI and TCO have been injecting more aggressively than DTI and TCO. Storage activities of DTI and TCO versus that of other storage facilities in the east have behaved differently this year compared to 2012.

Other storage facilities may be obliged to inject, due to the low inventory levels, to maintain the integrity of the reservoir or aquifer. Smaller storage facilities may not be fully‐subscribed. If there are unsubscribed capacities, these storage facilities may be conducing park‐/loan transactions to optimize their revenue outside of their ratchet schedule. The profile of capacity subscribers at DTI and TCO are likely to be different from those at other facilities. It is possible, that DTI/TCO may be more LDC's as subscribers. Storage inventory levels at both DTI and TCO are similar to the level of 2011 and much lower than 2012.
