Duke Energy issued a press release today announcing the commencement of commercial operations at their Edwardsport coal gasification plant – said to be one of the cleanest coal-fired power plants in the world. 
In anticipation of this event, Genscape added the plant’s output for PowerRT customers April 5th. Utilizing this data, Genscape’s clients were able to see the plant begin ramping on April 29th and gradually increase output throughout the month of May. Starting in June the plant has operated close to 100% for the first ten days.
Looking ahead, Genscape’s Market Intelligence unit notes there is planned work on the Bedford-Edwardsport 138kV line starting 6/17 which could lead to a new congestion pattern if this plant continues to run at full output.
