Genscape's Natural Gas experts don’t believe that the facility in Texas was a fertilizer production facility at all and find that it will likely have no impact on natural gas demand.
As reported on the Dallas News website at 2:35 AM on April 18th:
“The business stored anhydrous ammonia for sale to farmers. State and federal documents describe West Fertilizer as a seller, not a manufacturer.”
The Genscape NatGas team then took a look at the facility and compared it to a facility we know produces anhydrous ammonia (Koch Fertilizer’s facility in Beatrice Nebraska.) As evidenced the pictures below, the West, Texas facility looks nothing like a manufacturer of fertilizer. It appears that the tank pinned in the first picture below was the one that exploded today.
